While the folks at Car and Driver no doubt have the resources to hit the track, they instead opted to take the SLS AMG out for some donuts. We're not talking polite, single turn donuts, either. This is the kind of donut that leads to a fast trip to the tire store for some very expensive Continental ContiSportContact rubber. The British journalists from the CAR Magazine managed to secure a day at the track with both the new Mercedes SLS AMG and its grandfather, the original Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing. The original Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing was launched back in 1954, and after more than 50 years Daimler considered its time for a new one. The new Merc SLS AMG is powered by a 571 hp 6.2 liter engine that's capable of taking it to a maximum speed of 317 km/h. If you really need to, you can make the new SLS rocket from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.
