Mercedes-Benz SLS.

Though today the letters stand for power and performance, if you go back four decades, almost nobody had ever heard of a tuning garage called AMG. That was until the Mercedes-Benz tuner showed up at the 1971 running of the 24 Hours of Spa with... a luxury sedan. But not just any luxury sedan.
AMG took the 300 SEL 6.3, complete with wood dash and carpeted floors, bored it out to 6.8 liters and raised output up to 428 horsepower and 448 lb-ft of torque. With a top speed of 164 mph, the car qualified fifth out of sixty entries and went on to place first in its class and second overall, beating the likes of Niki Lauda and Hans Stuck. It was a pivotal moment that put AMG on the map.
Hans Heyer was one of the three drivers who alternated behind the wheel of the car dubbed the "Red Pig" that fateful day. And now forty years later, his son Kenneth Heyer is returning to Spa in a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 in matching livery to the original. It's a trip down the memory lane of AMG's history – though not the first – reuniting one of its first race cars to its most recent, seven of which, all told, will be contesting the Belgian endurance race this weekend. Scope it out in our high-res image gallery and follow the jump for Continue Reading »

Mercedes Grills.

The new Cabriolet offers the wealth of safety innovations one would expect from a Mercedes-Benz model. Highlights of the open-top two-door model include roll-over protection, the A-pillars reinforced by two additional tubes and the plug-in B-pillars. This new model is also the first Mercedes cabriolet to feature headbags.
The roll-over protection consists of two robust bars, each with a diameter of 1.4 inches, which are housed in the rear head restraints in modules behind the rear seat backrests. A tilting cone sensor detects imminent danger to the occupants based on extreme skidding movements or acceleration caused by impact. If this sensor then sends a corresponding signal, pre-tensioned pressure springs are activated by pyrotechnic means, i.e. extremely quickly.
Consequently, both roll-over bars in the rear head restraints are extended. They reach their highest point and are locked automatically within a fraction of a second. In combination with the robust A-pillars, each of which is reinforced with two high-strength steel tubes, the steel bars provide highly effective roll-over
protection.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe.

Mercedes-Benz has released more details on the new two-door E-Class Coupé. The Coupé is based on the new W212 E-Class platform and replaces the old CLK range. The hard-top four-seater has no B-pillars and features fully retractable side windows. Mercedes-Benz says it has the lowest Cd figure of all series-production cars in the world at just 0.24. That makes it extremely aerodynamic.
Fitted standard with the car is Merc's Agility Control suspension system which automatically adjusts to suit prevailing road conditions. Safety features include the Pre-Safe system which has the brake feature that automatically brakes the car if it detects the imminent danger of a collision and the driver has not reacted to preceding warnings. Attention Assist is another interesting one which uses about 70 parameters in order to determine if the driver is still alert or not.
The engine models in the diesel category are the E250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY with 150kW (204hp) and 500Nm of torque. It has an average fuel consumption figure of 5.1 litres per 100km. Next is the E350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY making 170kW (231hp) and maximum torque of 540Nm. Average fuel for this model is 6.8 litres per 100km on the EU cycle.

The COMAND control centre on the front cluster uses a similar wheel to that of the S-Class to control aspects like the CD player, radio, telephone and satellite navigation.
Trim choices are the Elegance and Avantgarde with each offering different customers what they require. An AMG Sports pack will also be sold. It comes with 18-inch AMG light alloy wheels, a sports suspension, two-tone interior leather and a sports pedal cluster among others.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Review.

Long a favorite in the midsize luxury segment, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has provided an appealing mix of comfort, performance and safety for decades. The trademark qualities of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, such as vaultlike solidity and leading-edge technology, have also contributed to the E-Class' great popularity among luxury buyers.
With variants ranging from fuel-efficient diesels to ultra-high-performance AMG models, there's an E-Class for just about anyone -- provided they have the financial resources to procure one, of course. Through the years, V6-powered models such as the E320 and E350 have offered respectable performance along with respectable fuel efficiency, while V8 models such as the E430, E500 and E550 have delivered truly autobahn-worthy driving dynamics.
The overall design of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has always been understated yet elegant. The interiors of the early models were comfortable but hardly lavish. However, the more recent models have grown quite luxurious, with generous helpings of leather, wood and chrome trim throughout, as well as the latest high-tech features. The E-Class stands tall among luxury cars as a tasteful and strong-performing entrant.
Proper vehicle maintenance leads to improved performance, and every driver can relate to that. In order to keep your vehicle humming along with efficiency, sometimes you have to step it up a notch. Mersedes Cold Air Intakes and Air Filters are the perfect ingredient for those who know how to punch the pedal with authority, and CARiD has just what you need!
